Overview

Description by Panasonic:

The LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 ASPH., a pancake interchangeable lens, is based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard. It features a compactness and light weight despite its F1.7 brightness allowing a beautiful soft focus for photos to be even more impressive.

Comprising of 7 lenses in 5 groups, the lens system uses 2 aspherical lenses most effectively to minimize both distortion and chromatic aberrations, achieving high resolution corner to corner.
The versatile 40mm of focal distance (35mm camera equivalent) is suitable for a wide variety of occasions from daily snapshots including sceneries like sunsets and dimly lit indoor shots to the deliberately creative shots taking advantage of its beautiful soft focus.

When mounted on the LUMIX G Micro System Cameras, the LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 ASPH. allows use of the advanced contrast AF system, which includes a Face Recognition function, for more convenient, more enjoyable shooting.

Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. The LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 ASPH. also features a highly reliable metal mount, and uses multi-coated lens elements that minimize ghosts and flare to further enhance its optical performance.

"That leaves us with the three native AF options. I would not buy the 17/2.8 unless size is a critical priority, or you know that you’re going to be shooting only static objects stopped down; otherwise the slow AF speed will drive you crazy. The Panasonic 20/1.7 is in a similar boat; it’s faster to focus than the 17/2.8 and optically better, but nowhere near as fast as the 17/1.8. The 20/1.7 and 17/1.8 deliver similar resolution in the center, but they render quite differently – the 20/1.7 is

"This Panasonic 20mm is one of Micro Four Thirds best prime lens, much better than the Olympus 17mm.

You can get this lens from either Amazon (Best Price + FREE Shipping), B&H Photo Video or Adorama.
I like this lens primarily because of its small dimension (hence the name pancake) and superior optical quality compared to Olympus 17mm.

On the center, this lens is sharp at tack,

"Being a pancake lens, this optic is very compact, and will make a pocketable combination with many Micro Four Thirds system compatible camera bodies. It weighs only 100grams, and compliments the Panasonic Lumix G3 used for testing very well.

The lens barrel is constructed from high quality plastics with a gun metal finish, and much of this space is
