Overview

Description by Nikon:

Professional DX Zoom Nikkor lens combines high ratio 3.2 focal length with SWM and f/2.8 aperture. With optics designed for Nikon DX Format digital SLR cameras, the D1 series, D100 or D2H, the new lens delivers a picture angle equivalent to a 25-82mm 135 format zoom lens. A high quality and flexible 'standard' zoom for D-SLR photography.

  • Professional class Zoom Nikkor lens for Digital
  • 135 picture angle equivalent of a 25.5-82.5mm zoom
  • Three ED glass elements minimise chromatic aberration with higher resolution and superior contrast
  • Nikon exclusive SWM (Silent Wave Motor) for whisper quiet and fast Autofocus

Reviews

"The Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 DX constant-aperture lens shows just what you get when spending money on premium optics: Top-notch performance across the board, with very good sharpness even when shooting wide open. (And at f/2.8, "wide open" on the 17-55 is wide indeed.)

"The lens is a conventional, two ring zoom with internal focussing operating manually or through a SWM AF system that is both quick and silent. The AF can be over-ridden manually without the need to turn off the Auto-function. Zooming does change the lens’ physical length with the front element extending by some 18mm at the wide end. The shortest overall length is achieved at around the 35mm
