Reviews

"Perhaps my biggest disappointment with the Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 L USM Lens is the significant light fall-off at f/2.8 - well over four stops in full-frame corners. This can be easily seen even in the 1.3x FOVCF sample photos above - the one on the left taken at f/2.8 and the one on the right at f/8. Stopping down to at least f/8 is required to get a vignetting-free image on a full-frame body. 1.3x and 1.6x

"The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 USM L II is the widest full format lens in the Canon EOS lens lineup. Within its native format it covers a whopping field-of-view of 114 degrees. This is a bit beyond most ultra-wide applications for mainstream users but sometimes there's simply a need for such special effect lenses. The EF 14mm f/2.8 is a rectilinear lens and thus distortion-corrected (as opposed to a

"The type II 14mm ƒ/2.8 shows a dramatic improvement in sharpness over the previous model. On a sub-frame sensor the original 14mm exhibited corner softness at every aperture setting; for the type II, even wide open at ƒ/2.8 there is very little corner softness (1 blur unit in the center, and 3 units in the corners).

By ƒ/5.6 corner softness is negligible, and by ƒ/8 it's non-existant. Diffraction limiting begins

"While the Canon 14mm f/2.8L has the solid feel expected of an "L" lens, its balance on both bodies was quite good. The lens/body combination was well-balanced, the combination not feeling overly front-heavy as is sometimes the case with large lenses. The lens has a built-in hood to protect the bulging front
