LUMIX G Compact System Camera G5 - The True Standard Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera with Stunning Image Quality

The newly integrated 16.05-megapixels Digital Live MOS Sensor with Panasonic’s original pixel mix technology suppresses the noise generation and achieves excellent S/N ratio. The redesigned Venus Engine features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities to render clear, crisp images in both photo and video recording. The 3DNR detects smooth part and the edge part of a picture and adjust the strength of noise reduction. The Multi-process NR quickly detects brightness in each part and applies optimum noise reduction.

The DMC-G5 features the fast and accurate Light Speed AF enables to quickly focus on moving subjects. Compared with the Phase-difference system AF, the Contrast AF boasts higher accuracy even in shooting at small F value. Combined with the Full-area Touch AF, it is possible to set focus on any point in the field of view for quick and intuitive focusing with free frame composition. High Speed Burst Shooting at 6 fps in 16.05-megapixel full resolution by a mechanical shutter and max. 20 fps by an electronic shutter are also available.

Taking advantage of the 16.05-megapixel Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine, the DMC-G5 is capable of recording 1,920 x 1,080 60p (NTSC) / 50p (PAL ) full HD video in AVCHD Progressive. A stereo microphone, featuring Dolby Digital Stereo Creator, records dynamic, true-to-life stereo audio. In addition to the practical full-time AF, the Touch AF in video recording also lets users enjoy professional-like rack focusing. Videos can also be recorded in MP4 for instant playback on the computer without file conversion.

The DMC-G5 is a compact, lightweight camera with high mobility and intuitive operation. The combination use of the newly added function lever and turn-and push rear dial completes major shooting settings. The Eye Sensor AF automatically starts focusing when the photographer looks into the EVF to capture the spur-of-the-moment. The new Touch Pad function enables using both 1,440K-dot equivalent EVF and 920K-dot Free-angle LCD simultaneously to encourage more intuitive shooting. Level Gauge and Electric Shutter are also available.

The popular Creative Control is upgraded by increasing its filter option from 6 to 14. Effect parameter of each filter can be adjusted. For beginners of interchangeable lens system cameras, the new Scene Guide offers 23 sample pictures shot by professional photographers. You can choose the one closer to the situation you are going to shoot and optimum parameters will be automatically set. The iA Plus mode lets you adjust defocusing area, exposure compensation and white balance while activating auto shooting assist functions.

Reviews

"Panasonic Lumix G5 final verdict: The Panasonic Lumix G5 is a solid upgrade to the earlier Lumix G3 and maintains its position as one of the best value Micro Four Thirds models in the Panasonic line up as well as more generally. The combination of a new 16 Megapixel sensor and updated Venus Engine processor improves on the low noise characteristics and excellent image quality established with the G3 and adds 1080p50/60 HD video and 6fps continuous shooting. And as my quality and noise results prove, the G5 can keep up with the larger APS-C sensors of rival models in most situations.

"The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 is an excellent camera. It is capable of capturing excellent photos, focuses fast—even in dim light—and can rattle off shots at an impressive 5.3 frames per second. Its video quality is also impressive, and while the lack of a microphone input may turn serious videographers away from it, it's probably an overkill for recording home movies to share on YouTube or watch on your HDTV. You'll get an excellent shooting experience whether you use the eye-level viewfinder or the rear LCD to frame shots, and there is a vast library of native Micro Four Thirds lenses available from Panasonic, Olympus, Sigma, and Voigtlander. And if you are not afraid of focusing manually, you can mount almost

"The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 delivers nice image quality in a mid-size mirrorless camera with an integrated EVF and customizable interface. This makes is suitable for intermediate photographers who prefer to shoot with the camera at eye-level and use certain controls often. The G5 turns in a balanced performance. It excels at autofocus speed while being average in terms of image quality and performance when compared to other mirrorless cameras. There are a few usability issues which make certain mistakes more likely but this digital camera does not do anything poorly.

"The Panasonic Lumix G5 is an accomplished mirrorless camera that upgrades its excellent predecessor in a number of significant ways in order to keep up with the fast-moving competition. A higher price tag means that it's not quite the bargain that the G3 was, but we can still highly recommend this realistic alternative to a bigger and bulkier DSLR."
