Reviews

"The D100's output in general looks less noisy in JPEG shots than the D1 models at the same ISO values. Coupled with the slight softening the JPEG engine tends to add, the camera is fully capable of handling subtle gradations without introducing objectionable noise. Skies look a bit cleaner on the D100 than on my D1x, which is to say, outstanding."

"The D100's feature set is also excellent, the provision of selectable colour space shows that Nikon takes the D100 very seriously, despite the price level this camera can be used by almost any type of user. Custom functions provide control over almost every camera feature, you can select a self-timer of 2, 5, 10 or 20 seconds, enable mirror anti-shock, enable or disable noise reduction, change the EV step level or even change how long the meter display stays on. There's plenty here for the shutterbug."

"The D100's image quality is sure to please. There were very few times that I needed to use anything other than Auto white balance, it works very well, even in mixed lighting situations. The image resolution rivals that of the more expensive dSLRs at a much more affordable price point. It's not going to replace the D1H for capture speed or the D1X for processing power.

"Like all of the D-SLR's I've tested (which isn't very many), the Nikon D100 is a superb camera that does whatever you ask of it. Resolution and color is excellent, performance is amazing, and it has nearly every manual control you could dream of. On the downside, it consistently under-exposed images by a stop or two, and images are very soft in the Auto sharpening setting in JPEG format. If you're hung up between the D100, Canon D60, and Fuji S2 Pro, the first thing to consider is which lenses you already own. The S2 Pro is a Nikon body and therefore takes Nikon lenses. If you're new, I really suggest trying them in person, as they all offer excellent performance. Pick the one that you like best -- you really can't go wrong."
