Canon EF 24 mm f/1.4L II USM review @ lensTip.com

For a lot of people this is the holy grail of 24mm lenses. But this particular reviewer is not so impressed:

"If a lens belongs to the Luxury series and we have to pay around 1700 $ for it is difficult to accept the fact that it might have some serious slip-ups. Unfortunately the EF 24 mm f/1.4L USM II didn’t manage to avoid them. The vignetting is

Canon t2i/550d review @ CrunchGear

The camera that should have been the 60D?
"The combination of a cropped sensor and no image stabilization means that your video will probably be pretty shaky. I’d recommend picking up a

Panasonic G10 review @ DCR

A bit sluggish they say?
I think that the Micro Four Thirds standard is finally getting to be where it wants to be, and it's a good thing too, since the competition is heating up.

Pentax K7 vs. Sony A700 review by AMW

While both cameras may be a little long in the tooth (especially the Sony), they are now at a very attractive priceponit, and they both remain very capable cameras:

"Comparing The Auto Focus- For this article I went ahead and bought a Tamron 70-300mm LD 1:2 macro so that I could compare both cameras with

Samsung NX10 review @ DPReview.com

Samsung got a bit late to the mirrorless party, but they managed to squeeze a full APS-C sensor into a body roughly the size of the Panasonic GH1:

"One of the most impressive things about the NX10 is its image quality. In general terms, the camera makes a really good job of exposure, white balance and color rendition, meaning that most of the key elements are in place for great photos. The images are perhaps a little under-sharpened

Canon 5D MkII vs Panasonic GH1 video shootout @ EosHD

A very interesting shoot-out, with some unpredictable results:

"It's a widely held belief that in low light the 5D trounces the GH1. But it is simply not the case. In fact the GH1 often matches or produces a punchier image, especially at ISO 800 - and it's not even much nosier, usually."

How to choose your next Sony Alpha lens guide by CameraLabs.com:s

Here's another lens guide by CameraLabs, this time for the Sony Alpha (Minolta for us old people) mount:

"Anyone shooting action or working in low light will also appreciate a lens with a larger aperture, indicated by a small f-number, such as f2.8. These may make the lens bigger, heavier and more expensive than models with average apertures, but have the major advantage of gathering more light. This allows

Panasonic GF1 review(ish) @ GX Garnerings

I like user reviews that venture a bit away from the beaten path. Added bonus, some garneshing of engrish. How about lenses that "hunt like fanatics"?:

"Unfortunately, GF1's focusing speed becomes a bit sluggish in low light situations with the pancake and the kit zoom lenses alike. Moreover, although the manuals say that the two lenses afford a closest focusing distance of 0.2m and 0.3m respectively, the lenses hunt like fanatics when the subjects are around

Weather-Sealed DSLR Camera compared at NeoCamera.com

"Comparing" is a tad harch, its more like an apples to oranges and Klingons to Jedi thing:

"This article compares all the affordable weather-sealed DSLR cameras in production. These DSLRs are the Canon EOS 7D, the Nikon D300S, the Olympus E-3, the Pentax K-7, the Pentax K20D and the Pentax K200D. The definition of weather-sealed varies between models but does not mean waterproof, so all DSLRs

EOS 1D MkIV vs. Nikon D3s: ISO Comparison @ NeutralDay.com

And a 5D MkII thrown in for good comparison. Watching the 1D MkIV getting the spank of its life is a painful experience to say the least:

"Don’t get dismayed Canon fans, compared to most cameras, the EOS 1D Mark IV does a very respectable job at high ISO, however the Nikon D3s just takes things to a whole new level, I hate to encourage you to skip past the fine print, but check out the ISO 1600 samples from the D3s, they look a lot like ISO

The BEST Canon EOS Lenses, by Bob Atkins

Some of these "best blahblah" writeups gets pretty trivial sometimes, except when dollars comes to play. How about, "best under $600, or even $300"?

"But suppose even $600 is too much to pay for a lens, what can you get for under $300 (includes some discontinued lenses at typical used prices). Note that some prices may have crept up a little since the database was last updated which is why I say under around $300"

New Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens

Canon has improved almost every aspect of this classic, including costruction, optical elements, and IS engine. The price has worsened though:

"Improving upon one of the most celebrated lenses in the Canon EF line is no easy feat, but Canon has done just that. The all-new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM increases the speed, performance and optical quality of the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM while maintaining all of the characteristics that have made it a

Samyang to release 2 new 4/3 Lenses

This Korean company is an up and coming force among the 3rd party lens producers. While mostly obscure, some of their lenses have received some favourable attention among photographers. Their entries into the 4/3 arena are interesting choices, as oposed to their hellish beehives of websites:

"Samyang company has informed that new lenses: Samyang 8mm f3.5 fish-eye and Samyang 85mm f1.4 with a mount for Olympus 4/3, have been released to

Nikon 10-24mm f3,5-4,5G ED Review @ Shutterbug

By George Schaub:

"The days when ultra-wide-angle lenses for APS-C (what Nikon calls DX format) digital cameras were rare or not very good are over. We have seen new options from independent and camera maker manufacturers alike, each bringing the fun and creative options of these unique angles of view to ever more

Panasonic announce GH1 body only purchase option.

Makes you wonder who would buy this video orientated camera without the excellent 14-140 lens, but there you go:

"Panasonic is pleased to announce that its award winning DMC-GH1 interchangeable lens camera will be available to purchase as body only – offering Micro Four Thirds Lens owners a cost effective solution to using the DMC-GH1.

Olympus E-P1 review @ Shutterbug

The E-P1 is practically the same as the E-P2 minus the added electronic viewfinder addon thingie:

"The E-P1 is chockablock with many features it has graciously stolen from E-series SLRs, including in body Image Stabilization, a kick-butt dust reduction system, multiple exposure capability, and Olympus’ now-famous Art Filters. Rather than discuss these capabilities any more than I have in the past, pick up a

NASA Orders D3S Digital SLR Cameras and Interchangeable Lenses from Nikon

"To infinity and beyond!"  Nikon Press Release:

Nikon Corporation (Michio Kariya, President) is pleased to announce that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has placed an order for eleven D3S digital SLR cameras and seven AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses to be used for photographic documentation.

Pentax K-x review @ Dpreview.com

The little brother of the K7 appears to be one of the best entry-point Dslr cameras ever, and this Dpreview.com review confirms it:

"Shooting a video on the K-x is very similar to the K-7 and a straightforward affair. Turn the mode dial to movie mode and press the shutter button to start recording; press again to stop. Once the camera is recording it is doing everything fully automatically and does not react to a press of any button other than

Sony Alpha A850 review from the future @ Shutterbug

Well, is IS dated January 2010, but otherwise no clues about what the new year has brought upon us so far:

"There is no Live View (or video) in this camera but there is something Sony dubs “intelligent preview,” which to me is a viable alternative to Live View for those who use it for making sure the right exposure and white balance, etc., are set correctly. Here’s how it works: you frame the picture and then press the

Nikon D3s review by Ryan Brenizer

Nikon and Canon have engaged themselves in an iso war that has left the other players completely in the dust. Now Ryan Brenizer presents images taken with the D3s  at iso 12.800 that appear fully usable! Of course when you shoot in almost complete darkness the focusing part of the camera must also be up to the task, and the D3s appears to be:

Canon EOS 5D Mk II the tool of choice for the largest panoramas ever

Both panoramas are located in Europe: One is the worlds biggest panorama, depicting the city of Dresden, totalling 26 Gigapixels ( 297.500 x 87.500 pixels) It concists of 1.655 pictures and it took the pano-robot 172 minutes to finish! The other one, a spherical panorama was taken in Prague, and it  is 192,000 pixels wide and 96,000 pixels tall giving us a total of 18.4 Gigapixels.

Canon 1D mk IV video preview by DigitalRev

Better to have SOME action on the 1D mkIV front than non at all. The preview includes the bodies of a mk IV and a Chinese girl model (complete with huge Canon sticker attached to arm, is she made by Canon too?), and one of these bodies shown is naked!

Pentax K7 review @ DigitalCameraReview.com

The Pentax K7 is the best Dslr released by Pentax so far, and one of the best cameras of this year. Voted as the best camera of 2009 by many,  now it also grabs the editor's choice award at DCR:

"For me, the only control that required me to retrain my brain was the mode dial. Pentax added a locking pin to the mode dial so you have to press a

Pentax K-x review by DigitalCameraHQ

One of the best affordable Dslrs gets the heads-up from the DCHQ crew:

"The K-x produces stunning images at base ISO and gets truly impressive results all the way up to ISO 3200. As would be expected from a sensor related to those found in the Nikon D90 and Sony A500, high-ISO performance is remarkable for an APS-C sensor. In some cases it even approaches

Canon Rebel XT drops 3000 ft from airplane, lives to tell the tale

(Via Engadget)  Bad puns asside like dropping faster than Canon's marketshare etc, this is a pretty amazing story:

The mounting plate detached when he opened his chute and both cameras (photo + video) took a fall from approximately 3000 ft. Amazingly, the Rebel survived the fall and my friend is still using it to this very day. It has a crack in the plastic body and the kit lens is a little jerky when

Canon 1D mk IV slow motion action by Dan Chung

Aaaah, some people are really truly lucky :) For the rest of us, there's the drool bucket:
" had not one but two 1DmkIV bodies from Canon to play with along with a selection for lenses from a 14mm right up to a 300mm f2.8. I wanted to test not just the low light but the slow motion capability as well so I shot this whole film on 720p/60 and then slowed it down to 23.98 fps using

Sigma 10 mm f/2.8 EX DC FISHEYE HSM review @ LensTip.com

A fisheye lens that takes standard filters? Sign me up!
"Here, we can accuse Sigma of too many good intentions. What is an HSM motor in a “fisheye” class lens for when, in many cases, the depth of field is so deep that the focusing simply doesn’t make sense? As a formality we note that the autofocus works quickly, silently and is very accurate (the

Olympus E-620 review @NeoCamera.com

Ladies and Gentlemen, we break the CaNikon review monopoly with a take on the Oly E620 by NeoCamera:
"In terms of image quality and performance the E-620 does quite well without being class-leading in any area. Despite the small sensor, image noise is kept low and dynamic-range is excellent. The autofocus performance is slightly below average but the camera always responds quickly."

Canon 7D review @ Cnet.com

Cnet is known for these mini reviews they cook up in 5 minutes, but this one is actually ok:
"The biggest draw for current Canon users thinking of stepping up from the 50D (or that class of camera) to the 7D is the improved autofocus and better photo quality at higher ISO sensitivities; it's significantly better than the 50D in those respects, and well worth the price differential. Things
