Chances are your camera is going to get confused by the snow no end - you can use "snow" settings if your camera has one, else just notch up
As usual, when something like this hits the spotlight, two things happen:
1. more images by the same photographer are found to be manipulated.
2. There's the usual uproar by those involved in the industry.
"The course, in 'iPhoneography' at London's Kensington and Chelsea College, is thought to be a UK first.
I believe the question 'to watermark or not to watermark' has been around since the middle ages. Surely, there's something rotten in the state of Interwebs, when in this brave new world anyone can appropriate someone else's photos. Don Peters looks into the pro's and con's, and comes up with the conclusion that The better part of valor is discretion:
'dress up your lens like a banana' i would say, but i don't know anything really about monkeys. Expect for their banana fetish, and the fact that they can rip your face off within minutes:
It sure *does* matter, but the matter is that smaller sensors are today where full frame used to be just a couple of years ago. They have catched up in the area of ISO, dynamic range, and in some cases even per pixel sharpness. Where the law of physics really stand in the way however is at the depth of field, where larger sensors remain supreme. I don't know if engineering will ever find a way to circumvent that I'm sure that Adobe will show off a software based solution at the unveiling of Photoshop CS7. By then of couse, Photoshop will cost more than a full frame camera.
This review is a bit oldish, but mattebox got the focus of my attention earlier today, and it got me craving for an iPhone. This app mimics-to all possible extent the functionality and interface of the Konica Hexar, and that cam is mostly based on my all time favorite film camera, the Contax G2. Potential show stoppers (as in ANY iPhone apps due to the @$%# Apple Api) are locked iso, shutter speed, and a tendency to refocus every now and then. For now, these problems can only be solved by a porting of Mattebox to Android.
I've got a 6th tip: Let's petition Apple to come out with a better, unrestricted iPad, like say, unlocked WiFi and ports, a real battery and a bigger model for those of us that think the current iPad looks like an oversized iPhone. Things like they enjoy over at the Android camp.
Gets a slightly bit technical, but really informative otherwise. Nice introduction to this often overlooked topic.
"After a the brief rundown of exposure details, Morgan explains to viewers the strobe light setup he used, detailing the location of each strobe and the effect it gave the photograph. His setup is as follows:
Photography Monthly just published its '50 greatest cameras of all time' for the second year in a row. It is a fair mix of pro and peoples cameras, the wacky and the serious. The only spoiler we'll provide is the thumbnail to the left, a nice crunchy brownie.
Fine art is in the eye of the beholder so to speak. Being a critic is way to easy nowadays. This finely written essay gives us the pont of view on the subject, of photographer John Maxymuik. You can see more of his fine work at the slightly cheesy and hopelessly dated site Ambient Images
If you feel like a newbie to Adobe Lightroom here's a 101 001 to get you started. Remember, small steps. Oh, and no windows XP if you plan on upgrading to Lightroom 4, Adobe doesn't like that.
"The short days we have at the moment make it the perfect time to shoot some night shots in the city. Buildings dotted with lights and neon shop signs decorating the streets look good on their own but to add even more interest, use long shutter speeds to blur any moving subjects with lights
I also considered the title "OMG IS EUROPE ON FIRE?!?" but it was probably too cheesy. And the reason Europe might appear to be too lit up must have something to do with Panoramio's popularity over there. Also, more photos have been taken in Antarctica than in Somalia.
"In summary, when the size of aperture is large (a small F-number like f/2.8), light rays reach dust particles that are sitting on the sensor filter from different angles. Remember, although I refer to this as “sensor dust”, dust actually never touches the sensor, because there is a thick filter
"Photographers who compose a picture in a similar way to an existing image risk copyright infringement, lawyers have warned following the first court ruling of its kind.
UK souvenir maker Temple Island Collection Ltd has won a ruling against New English Teas which it had accused of breaching copyright
"I was astonished again a year and a half or so ago when I saw the quality of the 20-inch wide prints I could make from Panasonic Lumix GF1 captures. But then, the uninterpolated GF1 file, at the native 300 ppi resolution for my HP Z3200 printer, is 13.333 inches. So that 20-inch print
"Not all shooting situations are the same, the required light reduction varies depending factors such as ambient light level, moving speed of the subject, and desired effect. Using conventional ND filter means the photographer will have to buy ND filters with different levels (stops) of light

"New work by Annie Leibovitz goes on exhibit today at the American Art Museum in Washington, DC., and it’s only distantly related to the celebrity portraiture she’s so famous for: Leibovitz has turned her camera on the personal effects and ephemera of celebrities from bygone eras, especially notable women."
"A tripod is essential for sunset photography as small apertures can mean longer exposure times and hand-holding the shot can result in shake. You need a strong tripod that offers stability but if it's too heavy it'll be hard to carry. A model such as those you'll find in Vanguard's Alta Pro
"So here I am about a month later at my apartment on the eve of the Lunar New Year trying desperately to remember what I was writing. I truly enjoy teaching and Ihope to have more opportunities to do so in the near future. So to my former and future students and anyone else who cares to read, here are my thoughts on approaching personal projects and photo-stories.
"One of the challenges of charging for your photography is figuring out how to get clients. You’ve got the technical know-how, but what about the business and marketing side? Strapped for cash and looking for ways to generate buzz about your photography? No problem. Marketing doesn’t
A nice little tutorial that includes well made hands-on videos, written by Victoria G. Also, most of the equipment involved in moving timelapse photography (except for the camera and lens of course) can be readily made from scratch, scrap and leftover bits. All you have to do is read some of the DIY tutorials that float around the interwebs (Google is your friend) and have some common sense...and patience.
"The camera alone is so large "it barely fits into a truck" and can capture photos in "epic detail" that will be a thousand times sharper than even the sharpest digital photos.
"When hand-holding a telephoto lens with no VR, you always have to make sure that your shutter speed stays fast enough not to cause camera shake. Always remember that the longer the focal length of the lens, the more prone it is to camera shake.
This article refers to Apple ibooks, revealed a couple of days ago. The medium is easy enough to comprehend by even the most compuphobic photographer, and the potential market is huge with almost 50 million ipads sold so far, and another 50 millions projected for the next 18 months.
Radio-signal triggers are useful for long-range triggering. Radio triggers are becoming more and more popular, and for good reason. They generally work very reliably and have a much longer range than infrared triggers. Depending on which type you choose, they can be used with

"As any photographer knows, no matter how advanced the camera, auto focus has its flaws, especially compared to the human eye. That’s
"It’s okay to be new. Everyone is new at one time or another. If you’re new, there are some things that those of us who are not want you to know. These aren’t the only things you need to know. This list could be 1000 times longer. But you have to start somewhere so here are just a few things
